The Etherian race was encountered by the crew of the USS Voyager when they were pulled into the dampening field of The Forge in 2375. Believing the Etherian ship to be abandoned, the Hazard Team boarded the vessel to retrieve information about their location. However, shortly after accessing their computers the Etherian crew emerged from stasis and attacked them. As Lieutenant Foster and Ensign Munro proceeded to shut down power on the vessel in order to lower the ship's shields, they encountered the Etherian commander who pleaded with them not to do so as it would disrupt the ship's stasis systems. The two sides realised the whole incident was a misunderstanding and the Hazard Team learnt the Etherians were on a long voyage to find a new homeworld when they were attacked by one of the Vorsoth's probes. The Hazard Team and the Etherians agreed to an information exchange, and when Ensign Munro proceeded to destroy The Forge and the 'seed' launched to create another, the Etherians aided him when he was attacked by the Vorsoth leader.
