SPECTRUM HOLOBYTE, INC. SECURES INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT LICENSE FOR "STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT," THE NEXT STAR TREK FEATURE FILM FROM PARAMOUNT PICTURES

Company to Develop Action Game For Windows 95, Featuring Characters and Storyline of Movie

Alameda, CA, September 5, 1996 -- Leading entertainment software company Spectrum Holobyte, Inc., is expanding its successful STAR TREK game line with the recently secured license to the STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT property from Viacom Consumer Products. The company will develop a Windows 95 action game based on the film. The film is scheduled for theatrical release in November from Paramount Pictures.

Spectrum Holobyte, Inc. also holds the licensing rights to other STAR TREK properties. To date, the company has released CD-ROM and Super Nintendo Entertainment System games based on STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION and is currently developing a Windows 95 game based on the STAR TREK GENERATIONS film.

"We are thrilled to once again have the opportunity to produce a game for such an outstanding Paramount property," said Derek McLeish, senior vice president, marketing of Spectrum Holobyte, Inc. "Based on the success of our previous STAR TREK games, we are confident that STAR TREK fans will embrace this game for inclusion in their computer game libraries."

Featuring all of the main STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION characters, including Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Commander William Riker and Lieutenant Commander Data, Star Trek: First Contact will dramatically recreate the intense battle with the evil Borg for control of the Enterprise-E.

Game Summary

Star Trek: First Contact's play mode is designed to immerse players in the look, feel, action and suspense of both the STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT film and the STAR TREK series. Strategically, players must struggle for control of the Enterprise-E's individual crew and systems and develop new weapons and other technological advancements to thwart the Borg's attempt to control the ship. As an enhancement to the gaming experience, players can also assume the role of crew members from STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION and challenge the Borg head-on for control of the Enterprise-E.

Star Trek: First Contact will take place on the Enterprise-E, which will be re-created in a real-time 3-D environment. At the start of the game, the Borg takeover of the Enterprise has begun. The player's goal will be to completely incapacitate the Borg on the Enterprise-E, which will involve encountering the evil Borg Queen herself.
