The Federation and Borg fleets are in fluidic space. Re-supply is only through cargo ships coming through rift Alpha. Somewhere in Fluidic Space an unknown 8742 entity is creating and stabilizing three rifts (code-named Alpha, Beta, and Gamma).


Note: The Federation has sent the USS Incursion, a unique ship equipped with a Holo-Generator that allows it to be disguised as an enemy ship. This may be useful for exploring the map.

You must first build a Federation Starbase which will then make available the construction of the Federation Trading Post. You should also build a Borg Nexus at the same time. Place both stations to the east of Rift Alpha allowing enough space to the south of the rift for the Federation Trading Station to be built. Re-crew both the Starbase and Nexus as soon as they are built.


When Species 8472 are close to your base use the USS Incursion's Holo-Generator and disguise your ship as a Species 8472 ship. Be careful, you will be able to target and fire at your own ships and stations. Use this ship as your scout, for now place the ship to the north of your base to give you an early warning system of incoming ships.


Note: Set your fleet to low movement autonomy otherwise they will actively seek out enemy ships and make themselves an easier target away from the defences of your base.

Once you have set up your Starbase and Nexus you should immediately start construction of your Federation Trading Station. Place the station to the south of the Starbase and Nexus so it is close to Rift Alpha, allowing easy access for the Cargo Vessel and covering fire from the Starbase and Nexus.


A special Cargo Ship modified to allow travel through Rift Alpha will be sent through the rift, this ship is your only one so look after it.


As soon as the Federation Trading Station is built Species 8472 will be alerted to your presence through their scouts and several light probing offensives will occur from the north and to a lesser extent from the east.

After construction has completed on the Federation Trading Station start construction of a second Federation Starbase to the west of the current one. While that is taking place construct another Borg Assembler and build a Modification Centre and Assembly Matrix to the south of your established base. Place all stations as close to one another as possible.


Your second Federation Starbase should be constructed before the more heavier Species 8472 ships start to attack from the north. Lightly armoured ships will also attack from the east, ignore these as your stations will take care of them. The 8472 fleets attempting to go through the rift will be marked on the map by Starfleet Intelligence. Bring your fleet as close as you can to the rift. Your fleets firepower and the firepower of your two starbase's will easily destroy all incoming ships.


Build Up

With Mission Objective 2 complete you should quickly build up your base so you are able to build Borg Cubes, have the Collective Hub researched (allowing Fusion Cubes) and have adequate defences to withstand further attacks by Species 8472.


First construct a third Federation Starbase to the west of the other two. It is important to strengthen this sector as the majority of Species 8472 attacks will come from the north. When ships are detected that are motionless move a small fleet out and once engaged retreat to the defences of your base, the enemy ships will follow you and be quickly dealt with by your starbase's.


Whilst construction of the third starbase is taking place you should build another Borg Assembler and with the one you already have begin construction on the following;

  • Assembly Matrix
  • Modification Centre
  • Advanced Assembly Matrix
  • Technology Node
  • Technology Assimilator
  • Ship Upgrade Facility

Keep the research stations to the south and Assembly Matrix's to the west.


You should also research the following;

  • Collective Hub
  • Engine Upgrade Level 1
  • Engine Upgrade Level 2

You may also want to construct a second Borg Nexus to the east of your Assembly Matrix's for protection. Set the rendezvous point for your cube's deep within your base. Any Species 8472 ships coming from the west will seriously damage and possibly destroy the cube's that you build.


Once you are able to start construction of Cube's build enough to make a Fusion Cube. When you have your first Fusion Cube position it in front of your starbase's which will strengthen your position there. Next build enough Tactical Cube's for a Tactical Fusion Cube, once completed fuse the Cube's together and move the Tactical Fusion Cube in to the place occupied by the Fusion Cube, then repair and re-crew the Fusion Cube. Carry on building up your forces with the resources you have. Depending on timing you may have only a Fusion Cube ready when the first intelligence report comes in from Starfleet that a fleet is approaching Rift Beta, if so use your Fusion Cube to stop the Species 8472 fleets from entering Rifts Beta.


Note: You can decommission any stations and ships you no longer require to gain more resources.

[edit] Find Rift Beta

You will not need to search for Rift Beta. Starfleet Intelligence will notify you of the position of Rift Beta and the position of the Species 8472 fleets that have set a course to the rift.

Use the Fusion Cube you have constructed and set a course to Rift Beta. Wait at Rift Beta until the Species 8472 fleets arrives. Place your Fusion Cube in between the rift and the path of the enemy fleets, not too close and not too far away.

You will not need to search for Rift Gamma. Starfleet Intelligence will notify you of the position of Rift Beta and the position of the Species 8472 fleets that have set a course to the rift. Once you have been notified of the position move your Fusion Cube at Rift Beta to Rift Gamma.

Again, use the Fusion Cube and wait at Rift Gamma until the Species 8472 fleets arrive. Place your Fusion Cube in between the rift and the path of the enemy fleets, not too close and not too far away.


[edit] Find the Rift Maker

Use the USS Incursion you earlier disguised as a Species 8472 to go north to find the Rift Maker. The Rift Maker will be at the most northern point.



[edit] Destroy the Rift Maker

First you will need to get to the Rift Maker. By moving your fleet away from your base you will leave it unguarded to enemy ships. It won't take too long for the enemy ships to take out you starbase's leaving the Enterprise and the Borg Queen's Diamond vulnerable. It is best to head towards the Rift Maker and engage any ships on a course to your base, but don't dwindle, make best speed to the Rift Maker. Engage the Rift Maker from the south east, where the least defences are concentrated.


There are many ways to destroy the Rift Maker (Fusion Cube's and Tactical Fusion Cube's are handy). The range of the Rift Maker's weapons will easily outrange your attacking ships weapons so you will need to sacrifice some ships to destroy the Rift Maker. One way is to use a fleet of Cube's followed by a Fusion Cube and Tactical Fusion Cube all equipped with the Corbomite Reflector (assimilated from the Enterprise), the Corbomite Reflector will help against the Species 8472 ships defending the Rift Maker but will not help against the pulse weapons from the Rift Maker and surrounding turrets.

one other way is to assimilate the nebula class with gemini effect use a tactical fusion cube and fusion cube move them slowly towards the riftmaker(set your ships on low movement)the copy's will kill the riftmaker.

You can also use a fleet of Cube's, a Tactical Cube and a Diamond equipped with Shield Re-modulation. Send the Cube's in first followed by the Tactical Cube with re-modulated shields from the Diamond.


Note: Concentrate all fire on the Rift Maker, ignore everything else.

If the USS Enterprise, The Borg Queen's Diamond or the USS Incursion are within sensor range of Species 8472 ships they will be attacked. Keep the ships well within the safety of your base. Make sure their movement autonomy is set to green, so they don't actively seek out enemy ships that come into sensor range. As soon as you can use the USS Incursion's Holo-Generator to disguise the ship.
